Here are the chat questions for our beary fun #picbookbc chat!

1. Chose a favourite Bear from a Picture book! Share a pic!

2. Considering real bears are wild and at times violent creatures why do you think most depictions of bears in books are sleepy, tame and/or cute?

3. Paddington Bear kept a Marmalade sandwich under his hat in case of emergencies.. what would you keep under your hat?!

4. Which do you prefer in picture books: Teddy bears or wild bears? Why?

There will also be plenty of time at the end for Zanni to answer your questions so come with a honey pot full!

We look forward to partying with you ‘picture book’ style on Thursday night the 3rd May at 8pm AEST for another #Picbookbc Twitter chat!

If you haven’t joined one of our chats before and wondering how it works head on over to our Welcome to the #picbookbc Twitter chat post!

APRIL WRAP UP!

We all had our magic wands out this month as we celebrated ‘Magic and Magicians’ in Picture Books with author Damon Young.

We were also celebrating the release of Damon and Peter’s amazing new Picture Book..’My Mum is a Magician’. This is their 5th Picture book together and in this series. An important celebration all the Mums in our lives and diversity. Mother’s Day is fast approaching! This would make a really special gift. These two talented guys make such an exceptional team.

Here are some highlights from our enjoyable and magical chat with Damon!

Q1.

This is my favourite part of our monthly chats…sharing our favourites. I often rediscover Picture Books or am introduced to beautiful new ones that I have somehow missed! There was lots of love for the Meg & Mog this week ( by Helen Nicoll & Jan Pienkowski) with many participants commenting it was a favourite from childhood.

Q2.

The themes of wonder, fun, imagination, escapism, and dreaming were very constant through our discussions of Q2. Damon described these books as being ‘the hint of the sublime..the suggestion that the world is wonderful even if ordinary rules are broken’.

Who knew so many people would lust over a pair of magical shoes?! There was also a mention of a pair of slippers that could transport you to bed from any location!! ( Yes, sign me up for a pair of those!!)

Q4.

The general consensus with this question was it is very hard to choose a preferred type of ‘magic’!!. After all….Picture books are all full of their very own type of magic!

There was also mentions of Magic Faraway Trees…Magic that is ‘chortle’ worthy…Cows tripping over moons…imagination and curiosity.

Now it was time for Damon to pull a rabbit out of a hat and answer all our questions! You heard it here first…. ‘My DAD is a ?!’ is the next book in his and Peter’s awesome Picture book series!!! What will it be….Dancer…Daredevil….Duffer?!
