3 sleeps until we are getting SCARY and SPOOKY!! at our October Picture Book chat with Debra Tidball!

CELEBRATE (2) copy

Deb has always loved picture books , she collected them even in her teens  and was very fond of animal themed stories. When she started reading picture books to her children, it sparked her desire to write.

Her latest picture book ‘The Scared Book’ (illustrated by the super talented Kim Siew) was a CBCA 2018 Noteable book AND won the Crystal Kite Award for Australia and New Zealand region!  .The annual Crystal Kite Award is a peer-given award to recognise great books from 15 SCBWI regional divisions around the world.

Horray for Deb!!!

For those who are yet to have the pleasure of reading ‘The Scared Book’ – It is described on Hachette Australia as-

“A gorgeously designed, interactive picture book which is a  fun shared experience that puts the child in charge of the story.

It’s story time, but this book has bad news – as soon as it realises there are monsters in it, it’s too scared to tell you the rest of the story! Can you help it feel better? It needs you to rub away its goosebumps, blow away the giant butterflies in its tummy, and fan away the yucky smell the monsters have left behind. A fun and quirky interactive story, with distinctive and stylish illustrations from an innovative young illustrator and muralist”

It is wonderful!

Here are the questions for our October ‘Spooky and Scary’ #picbookbc chat!

Q1. What is your favourite spooky or scary picture book and why?! Share a pic!

Q2. What are picture books that get us spooked so appealing?!

Q3. Do you think scary/spooky books have become more sought-after in Australia with Halloween becoming more popular?

Q4. Witches…Ghosts…Skeletons…Monsters…Mummies….Vampires…to name a few! What type of spooky character do you love seeing in a picture book?! Share an example if you have a favourite!

There will also be plenty of time at the end for Debra to answer your questions! Horray!!

We look forward to partying with you SPOOKY ‘picture book’ style on Thursday night the 4th of October at 8pm AEST !
