Hello #picbookbc family, it’s almost time for another chat! This month we’re joined by Sophie Beer as we celebrate picture books about Families!

Sophie is an award winning illustrator/author living on the Gold Coast, Queensland. She completed a Law and Creative Industries degree  at Queensland University of Technology . However most of her work is now in children’s and editorial illustration. Lucky for us we can now are  to swoon over her beautiful work in many picture books! Some of these beauties include Love Makes a Family, Arthur and the Tiger, Wren and Kindness makes us strong!. Make sure you have a look at all her beautiful work on her website.

Q1. What’s a favourite family themed picture book and why? Share a pic!

Q2. ‘Love makes a family’ by Sophie Beer is an inclusive picture book that depicts a diverse range of families.Do you think stories of family diversity are becoming more common in picture books?

SEPTEMBER #PICBOOKBC CHAT QUESTIONS

Hello #picbookbc friends, get excited cause another chat is almost upon us! This week we’re joined by Aura Parker as we celebrate Friendships in Picture Books!

Aura Parker wears many hats. She’s an illustrator, author, designer, co-founder of Studio Bonnie which specialises in screen printed art & handcrafted textiles, and all round creative. She currently resides in Sydney and is known for her detailed and insightful illustrations, playful sense of humour and  her exploration of nature, friendship, humanity and childhood through her books and illustrations.

She is best known for CBCA Notable book Twig, Meerkat Splash and her recently released book, COCOON.

Her incredible illustrations can also be found in My Magnificent Jelly Bean Tree by author Maura Finn.

Q1 What’s your favourite/s picture book about friendship? Share a pic!

Q2 Friendships can bring their own challenges. Give an example of a picture book that demonstrates how to navigate friendship problems.

Q3 Herman & Rosie, Meg & Mog, Winnie & Piglet and Duck & Goose are all examples of literary BFFs. Do you have a favourite friendship from a picture book?

Q4 If you could be friends with a picture book character, who would you pick and why?
